A welfare-first rabbit sanctuary offering abandoned and overlooked rabbits a safe place to land and a carefully chosen second chance.

Based in Suffolk, we rescue, rehabilitate, and carefully rehome rabbits with welfare at the heart of everything we do.

Who we are,

Suffolk Bunny Sanctuary is a small, independent, donation-funded rescue based just outside Bury St Edmunds, offering rabbits a safe landing when they need it most. We take in rabbits from all situations — from much-loved pets to those affected by neglect or overbreeding — and give them the time, care, and space to recover. Every rabbit is assessed, properly housed, enriched, and where possible neutered and vaccinated before being thoughtfully matched to the right home — never rushed, never overlooked.

We are proudly welfare-first. That means no hutch-only homes, no rehoming rabbits to live alone, and no intentional breeding — ever. We match people to rabbits, not the other way around, and offer ongoing support long after adoption. We are transparent in what we do, always learning, always evolving, and firmly committed to raising the standard of rabbit care. Because rabbits are not disposable, low-maintenance pets — they are intelligent, social animals who deserve a life, not just survival.

The Reality of Rescue - The average cost to prepare a rabbit for rehoming exceeds £250.

Caring for a rabbit properly is not inexpensive — and many of the rabbits who come into our care arrive without the basics.

Before a rabbit is ready for rehoming, they often require weeks (sometimes months) of care, stability, and veterinary treatment.

Typical costs include:

  • Neutering: £120 (castration) / £135 (spay)

  • Vaccination & health check: £60-100

  • Worming and mite treatment: £50

  • Hay, pellets, and fresh food

  • Bedding, housing, and enrichment

  • Ongoing care and rehabilitation

In many cases, the cost of preparing a single rabbit for adoption exceeds £250.

Where your support goes

Our adoption fees contribute towards these costs — but they do not cover them.

Suffolk Bunny Sanctuary is entirely donation funded.

Every adoption, every donation, and every share helps us continue to care for the rabbits currently with us — and say yes to the next one who needs us.

Why it matters

Rabbits are often seen as low-cost, low-maintenance pets.

The reality is very different.

By supporting SBS, you are helping to raise the standard of care — and ensuring every rabbit we take in is given the time, treatment, and dignity they deserve.
