Frequently Asked Questions
-
We take in rabbits who need a safe place to land — whether from changes in circumstances, neglect, or poor breeding situations. Each rabbit is given time to settle, is properly cared for, and where possible neutered and vaccinated before being thoughtfully matched to the right home. We are small-scale, welfare-led, and entirely donation funded.
-
Rabbits are social animals and should not live alone.
We only rehome single rabbits if you already have a suitable companion, or if we are supporting a bond.
-
We look for homes that offer space, safety, and enrichment.
We do not rehome to hutch-only set-ups. Rabbits need room to run, explore, and express natural behaviours — whether indoors or in a large, secure outdoor set-up.
-
Yes — either in person or via video call.
This isn’t about judgement, it’s about ensuring everything is set up for a safe and successful start.

Our adoption fee is £120 per rabbit which reflects the level of care each rabbit receives before leaving us — but it does not cover the true cost.
When a rabbit comes into SBS, they often arrive without the basics and require weeks (sometimes months) of care.
Typical costs include:
– Neutering: £120 (castration) / £135 (spay)
– Vaccination & health check: £60
– Food (hay, pellets, fresh greens)
– Bedding and housing materials
– Ongoing care and rehabilitation time
In many cases, the cost of preparing a rabbit for rehoming exceeds £250.
Where does the fee go?
We are a non-profit, donation-funded sanctuary.
Every adoption fee goes directly back into the rabbits — helping us continue to care for those currently with us, and those still to come.
Why don’t you charge less?
Rabbits are often undervalued, which contributes to poor welfare and impulse decisions.
Our fees are set to reflect:
– The real cost of proper care
– The importance of long-term commitment
– The value of the animal itself
This isn’t about profit — it’s about protecting rabbits.
-
Where possible, yes.
If a rabbit is not yet ready for neutering (for example due to age), we will advise and support you through the process.
-
Always.
We are here for guidance, questions, and support — both during bonding and beyond. Once an SBS rabbit, always an SBS rabbit.
-
You can contact us to discuss your situation. We understand that circumstances change, and we will always respond without judgement. However, as a small sanctuary, space is limited and we may not be able to take in every rabbit immediately.
-
No — never.
We do not support or engage in intentional breeding. Any babies that come into our care are the result of a pregnant doe being surrendered.
-
Because rabbits are often overlooked and underprovided for.
We are here to change that — calmly, compassionately, and without compromise on welfare.
-
By adopting, donating, sharing our work, or simply learning more about rabbit care.
Every bit of support helps us continue what we do.
